I am giving a mug to the first person who correctly names the object used to make the 'buttons' on the knitted mugs. I will even cover the cost of shipping, anywhere in the US. I didn't realize this would be so hard, but in my desire to give away a mug, I am going to give some clues about the object used to make the 'buttons' on my knitted mugs.
It is not man-made. Or woman-made, or human-made, if you are thinking that way. So far all the guesses have been for manufactured objects.
It is related to California, where I lived most of my life. It is something I saw in both Southern and Northern California. I figured with several readers being in California, someone would identify it.
I am planning on making porcelain buttons and polymer clay buttons from this object, I think they are fun and simple. And they would look great on a hat or sweater.
In other news,
Arabella asked me to cut her hair this morning, and it wasn't as tragic as I thought it would be. I cut it straight across, just below her shoulders. But I definitely need sharper scissors if I am going to start cutting hair.

well, it definitely is NOT an avocado pit... or date. hmmmm... mom
Ummm... edleweiss? I doubt that grows in California. Hi Cara. This is Laura who stood in front of you in the Harlot line. I'm interested in buying a couple of the mugs, but as I have a 3 year old, I need to ask, is it really fragile? Is it handwash only?
thanks. Oh, and does it come in multiple colors?
thanks
can't get my blogger password to work, so I'll just sign chrisandlaura@rtcol.com
Melissa, no and no. Neither of those are a specifically California thing.
Mom, nope.
Laura, I don't think Edelweiss grows in California, at least I never saw any. And they are more sturdy than they look. Dishwasher safe, and I am planning to do green and tan glazes, maybe some other colors.
and really, it's not just a California thing, but thats the only part of the U.S. where I have seen these. Definitely not East of the Rockies.
My guess is jumping jacks pieces for the buttons. :)
OK. This has been bothering me, because I feel it's something I've seen. Is it either the stamen or pod of a tulip or poppy?
thanks,
Laura

no, not a tulip or poppy, not a jumping jack.
acorns? still stumped.
Is it made with a sand dollar?
I was thinking the top of an acorn -- but we here in east have those.
something that comes from a tree?
Jeannie
Eucalyptus seed pod perhaps?
MJ
We have a winner! MJ, it is a Eucalyptus pod!
