Snow Week

I have been thinking about how I didn't grow up with this white stuff, and how different is my perception of it from others who did.

On Tuesday we expected snow, so it wasn't any surprise when school was cancelled. Michael had the day off (quite unconnected to the snow) and so we had a mellow day. Michael went to the gym and stopped for bread on the way home. We enjoyed the day.

Wednesday was different. Michael had to go to work, and although he has about the shortest and easiest commute of any of his department ... well. He spent a half an hour digging out the truck enough to get out, and then the truck got stuck and died in the driveway. He spent another half hour digging it out, making all ready, and then found that the truck wouldn't start again. He dug out the car in preparation for jumpstarting the truck (it was parked further up the driveway) and as he was getting close to done, a neighbor with a truck offered to jump our truck. Nothing. Although the truck cranked, as if the battery was trying, but just hadn't quite enough juice to turn over, jumping was useless. So next Michael spent another hour digging out a parking space in front of our house, and enlisted a neighbor to help push the Ford road block into the space. By now, it was noon, and he had soaked through 2 thermal shirts (one after another, not at the same time). AAA never even answered the phone. He called work and said he wouldn't be in. No one else in his department ever made it to work.

I measured the snow in the backyard, and despite the newspersons' insistence we only have 7-8 inches of snow, the snow is 12" deep in my backyard. That is in the middle of the yard, not in a drift or something.

So yesterday we all got up early so we could drive him to work, since I had a doctor appointment (school was cancelled again). He found out that even though many counties north, east, and west of Indianapolis have declared emergencies, that unless it is an EMERGENCY (and you are an ambulance), you could be fined $100 for driving, and although many people who work for the State live outside Marion county (including his boss), you do not get a day off. You must either risk getting a ticket (or more than one, depending on where you are travelling) or use a vacation day. Its not as if he's working for the department of transportation.

When we got home from picking Michael up from work, Mcihael took Arabella out of the car and stuck her in a snow drift "so she wouldn't run off".

This morning it is -2 degrees, and "feels like" -16, but hopefully the airport will be caught up, and I won't be stuck instead of on my way to exciting Kansas. Woohoo. Pictures of the snow next week, when it won't depress me so much.

Okay, How old is the battery in the truck? If it's even close to 5 years old, it's time to get a new one.

Batteries tend to freeze up at night when it's below 0 degrees and tend to go bad shortly after.

Ain't winter great???!!! Here's our forecast for Wednesday:
Partly sunny. A chance of rain and snow in the morning...then a chance of rain in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 40s. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.

The end is in sight!
