My husband has hair that has ... powers. His hair is curly, thick, and there are massive quantities of it. Most people don't realize it is curly because he keeps it very short. Sometimes, either because the weather is cold or I have been too busy to cut it, it gets long, and his black co-workers begin questioning his ancestry (You're part Italian? Southern Italian? Really Southern Italian?). As a person with very straight, very fine hair, I am jealous of his hair and its complete life of its own. Cutting his hair is interesting, it felts up in clumps more like wool than hair, and I have sometimes balled it up and let the cat chase it. But when it gets cut, we seem to get snow within 48 hours. In San Diego, of course, we merely got rain and cold, but in the midwest we get cold fronts and snow.
(This is a picture of Arabella eating Daddy's fries in December 2004. She was 13 months old. He is scowling bcause Arabella was taunting him with the fries, offering them then snatching them back and gnawing on them. Arabella started her Daddy torture early in life.)
Since Sabine was born we haven't had a chance to cut his hair, but it had reached the point where it was pushing his hat off. So I cut the Man's hair on Monday (we were having our first ever family portrait) and this morning we have:
It looks a little like Narnia (we have had multiple Narnia showings at our house this week, only occassionally interrupted by the Battle of the Nutcrackers), but that is our front yard and street.
In other news, here is a better picture of Sabine, one of the few smiles that she didn't direct at her buddy, Mr. Ceiling Fan. You can see that she too has inherited Daddy's magic hair. Lots of people are amazed by the quantity of hair on such a small baby.
And Arabella has discovered the magic of braids (ballerinas have braids, y'know).
