Too Much Information

Today it is colder in my front yard (-11, not including wind chill) than in Alaska. This is not right. Arabella is sick with a cold, so I have an excellent excuse to stay indoors in fuzzy spa socks and drink hot tea and try to keep Sabine from her favorite new activity -- climbing up on top of the dining room table.

Also, today I am wearing a dress. For the first time in 15 months and 18 days. Why is this remarkable? For some of my readers, the following may fall into the category of TOO MUCH INFORMATION, and so if you are male, or freaked out by body stuff, or just feel you don't want to know the gory details of breast-feeding, stop reading now and come back tomorrow when I will talk about something else.

A little over 15 months ago Sabine was born. And I nursed her every day. I'm not a freak about nursing, but I am very dedicated. It's easier, cheaper, cleaner than using formula. Sabine decided early she really didn't like formula, and wasn't all too excited about bottles, so she was a breast fed baby all the way. She was late teething, which was just fine, and only had two bottom teeth up until December, at which point she started to cut 4 uppers all at the same time. And then, around Christmas, she began to gnaw while nursing. I decided I would like to make it to my 40th birthday with my nipples intact, so on Monday (after discussing this with her Pediatrician), I nursed Sabine for the last time and locked up the milk factory. Threw away the key.

She seems to have had no problem with this, she fussed and pitched a fit on Monday when I wouldn't nurse her at nap-time, but since then she has done nothing more than nuzzle my arm-pit a few times, and she does that to Michael too. I've upped the amount of milk she gets, and she seems to think that is just fine. Since I still spend time cuddling her, even when she wakes in the middle of the night, and letting her tuck her hand in my cleavage, she isn't missing the closeness and contact.

I have had a harder time. Engorgement is one of the hardest parts of nursing, and I'd just like to be able to roll over in bed without wincing. But, the good news is there is whole variety of clothing now available! Woo-hoo, dresses!

Yes engorgement sucks, pun intended ;)

Eat a lot of sage, it dries up the milk supply really well.

Yay for dresses!! =)

I miss you guys so much!!!!
