Recovery and Redemption are here

I saw an article recently: a new study claims the brain development was greater in small (pre-kindergarten) children shown alot of affection and given lots of play time, more than in children subjected to rigorous education. I told this to Lenore, one of the teachers at the co-op school where A goes, and she was thrilled (hand pumping thrilled). She said it confirms what she has known for a long time, and how she "teaches".

I have made myselt a pact -- more time spent doing nothing. That may sound strange, but I suspect the reason I have been dissatisfied with the direction fo my art in the past few years is related to the lack of "dream time". Since A was born I don't give myself to do nothing, and to simply think and reflect. Of course, I have little opportunity to do nothing, but I have been reading, playing, knitting, being a mommy, and of course, discovering blogs. Enough. If I expect to be an artist, I must make the time to do so, and for me that involves lots of thinking and dreaming.

Ha! You can't space out. You're a Mommy!!!

When the kids were small I used to say I wanted to hide in a closet for a few hours. . . in the dark. . . doing nothing. . . just hiding. It didn't happen. They always found me.
