I knit alot of hats. I don't really make scarves, I haven't worked my way up to mitten or gloves or anything with a thumb gusset. I have made a few sweaters (mostly for babies), a few large shawl-size wraps, but really I make oodles of hats.
The reasons for this are:
- I can never find a hat when I need one, and as I am cold often, I need one alot.
- Hats don't take much yarn, and I'm cheap. So with one or two skeins of yarn (150 yards or so), I can make a fun hat.
- They're fast, so I finish before I get bored.
- Hats are the best accessory.
Here is Michael in his new half-pipe hat, in Merino wool. Very warm, though I secretly think the color and shape together make it look like something Radar O'Reilly would wear.
This is actually a headband/earwarmer, but I say it counts as headwear.
Currently I am knitting a slouchy beret out of yarn that cousin Veronica brought back from Italy two years ago. It would have been a good scarf, but I have this hat fixation ...
