The frog picture was a hit, with Mom at least, so I thought I would put the other two frog pictures up. Top is a frog in the palm of my hand (and I have small hands, so realize that frog is much smaller than a dime). Lower pic is Arabella examining her tiny pets while W3 hunts more frogs in the background. And yes, she did release the frogs back into the wild before we headed indoors for lunch, we insisted she could catch them again later.
My project is moving along well, but I had to interrupt yesterday to do a demo at the State Museum. It was pretty low-key, but at least there were no school groups. The bigger kids are mostly too cool to talk to an adult around their peers, and the younger kids tend to mob the table. Not always. I have had some incredibly interested and disciplined kids gathered around, and I have had some groups that I had to ask to put the tools down and back away from the table. Since most school groups wear identifying apparel or tags, I can tell where alot of the kids come from, and there does not seem to be any deciding factor to behavior, like public vs. private vs. home school, or religious vs. secular, or black vs. white, or lower-class neighborhood vs. upper-class neighborhood. I've had inner city kids and mennonite kids, kids whose school t-shirt is tie-dyed, and kids who apparently run wild and have no chaperones. The school groups are tough only because they come in waves, and it is hard to answer 20 questions at the same time.
But at least I had visitors. The worst demos are when I have no one (and I mean No. One.) visit. I get alot done, and I still get paid, but I feel a bit sad. Yesterday I was working on a figure of a reclining deer with the head of a woman, and some people thought that was very cool and creative, and some people just gave me a look like I confirmed all their worst fears about artists (stoned weirdos, heathen rites, freakin' Californian... ) as they ambled off in search of Tomorrow's Indiana.
